As I've tailored products to client
requests, Ninth Moon has grown organically.
One (not so surprising) off-shoot is an increase in
demand for graphic design work & layouts for:
do-it-yourself authors to
print locally (a green option we love!)
items to be sent to your
favorite on-line print shop (VistaPrint, etc.)
other promotional products
(mugs, t-shirts, etc--the Zazzle market)
print ads, posters, etc.
I've been doing this work ad-hoc . . .
but after becoming swamped with "side" work (and
sometimes causing the other side of the business to fall behind), I realize it's
not a side business anymore, but a major part of my offerings.
As such, I've created a product/price list to help
streamline & standardize graphic design at Ninth Moon.

- So--how does the process work? It's easy! You decide
what you'd like and buy it on line. We'll contact you (within 24
hours) and get an idea of what you're hoping to achieve--so please make sure
your contact email is accurate. Based on your comments, we'll work up
some designs we can play with. Once we get something you love, we'll
send you a printed copy if you'd like (because monitor color doesn't always look the same
as print color). As soon as you're happy, we'll print (if it's one
of our products. For design-only services, you're free to cut & run. Our products
are guaranteed. If you're ever not happy, just let us know & we'll do
what it takes to make things right.
- I'm not sure what I want--help! Drop us an email
(email@example.com). We're pretty good about making
recommendations that maximize your budget.
- How do you compete with the other shops?
We do a few things.
We don't subcontract out our work, so there aren't layers and layers of
profit built in. It's just us and you (both trying to make a living).
We buy in bulk--so you don't have to--and pass that savings on to you.
We also have bookselling experience, and as members of the American
Bookseller's Association, we have a network of sellers we work with to make
products that work for them and you, the author--a win-win combo.
- I have my own design--can I use it?
We assume here that you mean you created
it and/or own (or have licensed) the copyright. In which case . . . absolutely! We
often design items to complement book covers and author websites.
Building a brand is important. All we need from you is your permission
to use the images, and that you provide them in
high-enough resolution so the printed product looks nice (we like to get
600dpi, if possible). Give us a shout and let us know what you'd like
and we'll work with you.
- What about copyright on images?
Authors take copyrighted
material seriously. . . and so do we. If you want to use someone
else's image (or parts of it), you need to make sure you have permission.
If it's something we acquire (like through a stock-image company), we'll
make sure we buy the correct license . . . in which case this license covers
the product you purchased. If you want to use the image/design for
something else, please ask.
- If I buy some now, (and want more later), can I get the volume
discount? We wish we could--but the savings are generated in economy of
scale--we only have to run the print & cutting jobs once and can order in
higher quantities. Same goes for mailing & packaging prep. With
that said, we can be bribed. Sometimes. With good chocolate.
- What about shipping costs?
Shipping to U.S. addresses is built in to all of the pricing. Items over $40 ship free; under $40 are $4.25.
If you live outside of the United States, we'll contact you to let you
know additional charges, if any.
